The lyrics to this song came pretty quickly. I'd been watching a TV programme about the fashion industry and became very angry with all the vacuous, self-possessed idiots pretending what they did was actually of any importance in the overall scheme of things. The anger is also directed at the clods who support this trivial, self-obsessed industry by obediently buying what they're told to buy, on the premise it will make them more alluring, successful or accepted by their peers. The paradox is that people choose their modes of dress in order to conform, whereas they'd claim, if asked, to be expressing their individuality.

Rant over, what about the music!

I built the backing tracks up from scratch with the bass riff coming first.  I wanted to keep a heavy, aggressive, chunky sound so I used a ‘Led Zeppelin’-type drum kit from Native Instruments’ Battery 3.

I played two overdriven guitar parts, one panned hard left and one to the right, using my trusty Epiphone Flying V through my BOSS DR-880 drum machine/guitar processor.  I just let rip playing these parts, one take only for each, warts and all, to get a nice angry, manic feel to match the sentiment of the song.  I did make one or two small timing corrections using Melodyne Editor and also used this to remove the occasional adjacent string noise during the soloing in the outro.  Bass, organ and synth sounds were patches from my Roland Fantom X6.  All recorded and mixed in Sonar X1 with NI’s T-RackS 3 plugin used to master the final mix.
